Alzheimer’s Workshop to Offer Information and Support For Family Members
If someone you love is suffering from Alzheimer's disease, then you know how family members and loved ones suffer as they watch their loved one go on this difficult journey. A workshop called "Dementia Conversations" will be held this Friday, April 29, at 2PM at the Texarkana Public Library to help discuss this transition.
The workshop will be presented by Ashley Wilcox and will help family members bring up the uncomfortable conversations to a loved one who is starting to show signs of dementia.
"My father passed away from this disease at the young age of 58. Since then it has been my passion to advocate and educate about Alzheimer's," Wilcox said.
Some of the topics she will cover during this workshop include how to approach a situation where a family member may start showing symptoms. What types of testing are needed for a diagnosis? How to encourage someone to take the first steps of going to a doctor? Also covered will be financial and legal issues to consider early on like Power of Attorney. Plus, you'll find out about the different types of support offered and resources available to patients, families and caregivers.
The workshop is free to the public.
Also make plans to support The Alzheimer's Alliance Tri-State Area as they host their Second Annual Wine Texarkana Twice As Fine Wine Festival Saturday, May 7, at Spring Lake Park.
