The 10 Best Summer Movies of 2016
Okay, so it was one of the worst summer movie seasons in recent memory. Trying to find the good blockbusters amongst the last four months releases sometimes felt like trying to find a needle in a stack of s---. But even this year there were diamonds in the rough. Today we’re celebrating the ten best, the summer movies of 2016 that didn’t make us weep for the future of cinema — and note that this list is just movies that got wide releases in at least 500 theaters. We’ll have a separate piece on under-the-radar summer films you might have missed next week on ScreenCrush. In the meantime, let’s celebrate the highlights from a depressing summer before we clear the decks and get ready for the fall.

‘Moana’ Trailer: Disney Sets Sail for the South Pacific
As promised, Disney has debuted the first official trailer for Moana, the studio’s new musical adventure featuring the voices of Dwayne Johnson as a demi-god — as if you could cast him any other way. Who Should Replace Daniel Craig as James Bond? Here Are 10 Great Candidates
Daniel Craig couldn’t have made it more clear during the Spectre press tour that he was pretty sick of playing James Bond. He even went so far as to suggest he’d pick slashing his wrists over returning as the famous secret agent for a fifth time. And now it looks like the actor is really done as 007, reportedly turning down a ton of money to star in the next Bond film. As big of a bummer as that is, it also means it’s time to speculate!
What’s Expiring From Netflix: May 2016
The best part of each new month is the stuff that gets added to Netflix. The worst part of each new month is the stuff that gets taken from Netflix. And this month’s list of expiring titles is actually pretty extensive; there’s a Ridley Scott double bill (Black Hawk Down and the theatrical cut of Blade Runner), Bill and Ted’s Excellent Adventure (Bogus!), the terrific Polish drama Ida, and the surreal horror flick Escape From Tomorrow, which was shot on the grounds of Walt Disney World without the company’s permission.
New Netflix Instant Releases: May 2016
The short version: There’s lots of new stuff coming to Netflix this May, including the returns of Netflix Originals Bloodline and Grace and Frankie. ‘The Magnificent Seven’ Trailer: Justice Has a Number
The original 1960 John Sturges film is a classic, as is the film that influenced it, Akira Kurosawa’s The Seven Samurai. Will this new reboot of The Magnificent Seven be as good as either one of those films? Unlikely, but based on this new trailer, Antoine Fuqua’s update looks like enough fun in its own right...
