A group of alumni from Texas High, Liberty-Eylau, Arkansas High and Pleasant Grove have teamed up to provide for the first time ever a "Bigger Than Me Youth Summit". The summit is tailored to junior high and high school students from Texas, Arkansas, Liberty Eylau and Pleasant Grove who are proned to adverse circumstances currently and post graduation.

The summit is set for Saturday, September 15, 1-5 P.M. at Liberty-Eylau High School Media Center and is absolutely free.  The objective is to bridge the gap between former graduates who are currently leading positive lives in some capacity with current students.

Co-cordinator and Texarkana native, Deonte' Bradly provided the following statement:

The Bigger Than Me Youth Summit will include participants from various fields, such as: local entrepreneurs, teachers, counselors, College students/graduates, entertainers, athletes, military Personnel, attorneys, corporate Executives, police officers, and other community leaders.

The youth summit will kick off with a keynote speaker to set the tone for the learning experience at hand. From there, students will break into small groups to enter into the breakout portion of the summit. Breakout sessions will focus on manhood and womanhood will include the following topics:

  •  Resume’ Building/Interview Etiquette
  • Financial Literacy/Budgeting
  • Entrepreneurship/Career Seeking
  • The Importance of Travel/Getting out of your comfort zone
  • College Admissions
The summit will conclude with a special musical performance from a local entertainer or a speech from a hometown celebrity. DJ Hollygrove will be in the mix.
This team of alumni are taking it a step further to raise funds to provide a scholarship to award to a local high school senior. The amount of the scholarship has not been disclosed. The team held a car wash at Car-Mart to help raise scholarship funds.
