'Personal Responsibility' - It's a concept that even the highest government officials in our country don't understand.

The company that makes Buckyballs is in for the fight of their lives, literally with our government. Not because they make a product that's illegal, but because they make a product that can hurt you or someone you love if you're an idiot.

The U.S. Consumer Products Safety Commission has ordered a recall of Buckyballs because there have been a few instances of them being swallowed by small children and those children being hurt by the powerful magnets being attracted to each other and not passing through the child's system like most things kids swallow. By the way it's not just small children, this has been a problem with teenagers too.

Here's the interesting part though, Maxfeild and Oberton, the company that makes these popular desktop toys for adults has told the government to stick it! They will be facing each other in court in the near future to show that their product has numerous warnings to keep away from children. After that they cannot and should not be held responsible for what stupid people do with their products after they're sold. (My words, not theirs)

They are however, absolutely right.

If you leave your Buckyballs out where small children or possibly stupid teens, can get at them, there's going to be problems. Guess what? It's not the fault of the company that makes the product, it's YOURS!

It's called 'Personal Responsibility'.

A few examples;

  • If you leave drain cleaner uncapped in a playpen, don't be surprised if you have to call an ambulance, but you don't get to sue the drain cleaner company. You pulled off that amazing piece of stupidity not them.
  • If you leave a loaded handgun on a table where little hands can grab it, don't be shocked if it goes bang and somebody gets hurt or killed. You don't get to sue the handgun maker, it's your fault!
  • If you sit on your couch for twenty years eating Twinkies and never get any exercise, don't be disillusioned with the company that makes the Twinkies lard butt, you did it to yourself. You don't get to sue the cream-filled sponge cake company.

Nor should the U.S. Consumer Products Safety Commission be suing a company that is making a perfectly legal product and labeling it in such a way that anyone with half a brain can plainly see that these are not supposed to be ingested.

This is nanny-state, panty-waste, BS. I don't want  the U.S. Government in the business of deciding whether or not I'm smart enough to use a product. All the Feds need to do is make sure a product, when used as described, is safe for the use in which it was intended, period. That's it.

Natural selection should take care of the rest.

What do you think?
