I want to start out by saying that the world is a dangerous place, and will never be any safer than it is today. With that in mind, I want to make sure that my children have the knowledge and ability to defend themselves and stay safe. Do you?

Recently my youngest daughter asked if she could assist in teaching women's self defense classes. Since, she's had a lot of school activities like band, and soccer she hasn't been training like we were at one time. So, I decided to give her a pop quiz on her skills.

She went through a strenuous warm-up, then we tested her on defensive techniques. For that, she stood with her hands at her sides, eyes closed, breathing deep, with no idea of how she would be attacked... Then I attacked!

I think she did pretty good, and if she is willing to get back to work on her training, she will be a huge asset in our mission to offer a simple, effective and affordable option to adults wanting to learn Krav Maga.

We do not teach Krav Maga to anyone under the age of 18 without a parent enrolling in the program with them. However there are some very good options locally for children. I would highly recommend a Tae Kwon Do program, or other traditional art. Kids will get some self defense training along with many other values of traditional martial arts, like more self esteem, confidence, respect for others and discipline. How do you feel on the subject of children and self-defense?
