A former Arkansas High teacher has received a high honor from the Texarkana, Arkansas School District.

Cordia Metcalf has been awarded the Jack Hardy Memorial Educational Service Award. The honor is given annually by the Texarkana, Arkansas School District to a person who has given herself through volunteer work. The award is named after a dedicated TASD volunteer, Jack Hardy.

"We have presented many deserving volunteers with this award throughout past years, and this year is no exception," said Genia Bullock, spokesperson with TASD.
Metcalf received her Bachelor of Elementary Education from College of the Ozarks and her Master of Education from Texas A&M University-Texarkana. She worked in the Texarkana, Arkansas School District for 25 years and was named the TASD Teacher of the Year.
Metcalf went on to become an Arkansas Teacher of the Year Regional Finalist. After her retirement in 2014, she continued to be a role model for students and teachers.
Each week, she can be found volunteering on one of the TASD campuses. Her tireless volunteerism lead to her being named Mother of the Year by Alpha Kappa Alpha, Sorority, Inc.
Her volunteer work extends beyond working with TASD students and staff. She also volunteers with the Big Brother – Big Sister program, participates in the Arkansas Retired Teachers Association, teaches bible study classes, and serves as a Deaconess and Board Trustee at Eleventh Street Baptist Church.
