Gwen Stefani made her hotly anticipated return to The Voice on Monday (February 27) for the competition's Season 12 premiere, where she and Blake Shelton proved that their relationship would be the breakout star of the season.

While the two artists are currently dating—they met while filming Season 7 of the hit NBC show in 2014—Stefani and Shelton, the latter whose team has won the show three times already, unleashed their competitive sides against one another, with the pop star often trying to leverage her relationship with the Nashville crooner as a way to attract country singers.

After Shelton and Stefani both turned their chairs for Stephanie Rice, the This Is What the Truth Feels Like star passionately pleaded her case for the folksy singer to choose her over Shelton, and she laughed when fellow coach Adam Levine mocked her man's accent in an effort to persuade Rice to choose her.

However, the pair also made sure to show each other plenty of love, too: When the first contestant, JChosen, chose (uh, JChose?) Stefani as his coach, Shelton couldn't help but stand and clap for his girlfriend.

In another sweet display of solidarity, the "Make Me Like You" singer retreated to her beau's lap for comfort after losing soulful contestant Johnny Hayes to Levine.

"I see two people in this room that have made a comeback... One is you and the other is Gwen," Shelton told Hayes while trying to convince him to choose his girlfriend.

"If there's been a comeback in the music industry like hers in the last ten years I'd like to know who it's been. You put those two energies together [and] wow," he continued, gushing.
