It took extra innings to determine the winner of the 6A South Conference opener between the Arkansas High Ladybacks and the Lake Hamilton Lady Wolves Thursday night at Ladyback Field.

The Ladybacks were down by as many as six runs but came back to tie the game at seven in the final inning. Lake Hamilton scored two in the eighth inning to win the game 9-7.

A sloppy first inning by Arkansas High led to two Lake Hamilton runs. Maddison Williams doubled to left field scoring Paige Hoover and a two out triple by Lexi Crone scored Williams, Haley Atkins, and Katie Carpenter, putting the Lady Wolves up 6-0 in the second inning.

Arkansas High responded in the third inning with a two run home run off the bat of Kaitlyn Eaves. After another Lady Wolves run in the top of the fourth inning, Arkansas High scored two runs in each of the next two innings aided by four walks by starting pitcher Karli Herron.

With the score 7-6 going into the bottom of the seventh inning, shortstop Destiny Turner singled to lead off the inning and advanced to third on a double by Alexus Paxton. Turner tied the game on Eaves sacrifice fly.

With Madelyn Weatherford already on second due to the international tie breaker rule, Jordan Collier reached on an Arkansas High error. Williams was the hero for the Lady Wolves, belting a two run single to center to win the game.

Herron tossed a complete game for Lake Hamilton and had 12 strikeouts, 10 walks, and hit one batter. Eaves took the loss for the Ladybacks. She had 15 strikeouts, two walks, and hit two batters.

The Ladybacks will be back in action April 1 in an away game against El Dorado.
