Let's face it, most of us will never get to travel to Peru to see the ruins of Machu Picchu, but thanks to a recent endeavor by a photographer with a really pricey camera, we can see more of it now than ever before.

This is Cool with a capitol "C", if you're into the mysteries of history. There are many theories about the inhabitants of Machu Picchu near Lima, Peru, most of them center around the once mighty Incas that supposedly built and inhabited this lofty perch. Why they built it, why they abandoned it, all still a mystery.

If this kind of stuff fascinates you anywhere near as much as it does me then the opportunity to view a high definition photograph of Machu Picchu will be right up your alley as well.

I learned about this photo from a guy I follow on YouTube, his name is Destin and his video blog is called Smarter Every Day. He recently completed this trip to South America, the ruins there were just a part of the journey. His friend and photographer who brought the "big camera" that captured this amazing image is Jeff Cremer. The image is 16 Gigapixels, and if you're not sure, that's a lot! It's scroll-able and zoom-able, so feel free to scroll and zoom to check out some amazing details.

Hats off to these guys for bringing us closer to one of our planets most amazing mysteries.
