One of the reasons Disney paid $3 billion for rights to Lucasfilm and Star Wars was because they knew they could synergy the s— out of it. No company does cross-promotion quite like Disney does and they’ve already proven adept at using each of their brands to help promote their other brands (remember when the Star Wars: The Force Awakens trailer debuted on ESPN?). Continuing on the path “Journey to Star Wars: The Force Awakens” started last year Marvel Comics has officially announced that they’ll be publishing a Star Wars: Rogue One prequel comic series later this year.

Marvel announced the news at the Diamond Comics Retailer Breakfast this morning at C2E2 in Chicago. No further information was given other than it would be a three issue series “plus a one-shot” set for release in October (would that make it a four issue series?).

If it’s anything like Star Wars: Shattered Empire, the four issue comic series that bridged the gap between Return of the Jedi and The Force Awakens, it will introduce the new world of Star Wars: Rogue One without giving away much in the way of spoilers. Because Rogue One takes place before the events of A New Hope, there is no end to how far back in the Star Wars timeline the story can go.

No artists or writers were announced at this time, but you can expect whatever creative team announced to work closely with Lucasfilm on the story.

The film, which is directed by Gareth Edwards (Godzilla) and stars Felicity Jones, Diego Luna and Ben Mendelsohn, follows a band of resistance fighters unite for a daring mission to steal the Death Star plans.

Star Wars: Rogue One opens in theaters on December 16.
