The days are getting warmer and longer and as we start a new month it's time once again build the stages then run and gun our way through them in Texarkana Gun Club's April USPSA match!

As always I can't wait to shoot our USPSA club match, it's by far one of the most fun things I get to do each month but as you well know if you have been reading these blogs for any length of time, the stage known as the "classifier" has been my biggest downfall. It's something I manage to screw up just about every time I shoot it. The classifier is a very important part of the ranking system in USPSA, each time you shoot a classifier stage your score is turned in to the organization. An average of your last several classifiers is what determines where your skills and experience are compared to other shooters in the organization.

The classifications are as follows:

  • GM = Grand Master
  • M = Master
  • A
  • B
  • C
  • D

I am embarrassed to admit that I'm a "D" classification at this time. It's very frustrating because I think my shooting is more a strong "C"  and maybe even a "B" at times, yet when I get to the big and bad "classifier" stage I just can't seem to prove it. It's a mental block that I have to get past, and maybe I have found just the way to do it.

That guy pictured above (you know, me) is now in charge of picking and setting up the classifier stage each month! HOLY TARGETS BATMAN! I was just having a discussion with my youngest boy last night about facing your fears, doing what's hardest makes you a better person and a stronger competitor. Whether it's playing ball, doing timed math tests or trying to shoot that cotton-picking classifier, focus on your weaknesses and turn them into strengths. That's the plan anyway, I'll let you know next week how it went.

Join us online or in person, either way we would love to have you.

As always, if your looking for a great place to shoot in the Ark-La-Tex, a local instructor or some new friends to shoot with, you’ll find it all at TexarkanaGunClub.org.

Stay sharp and shoot safe.
