NBC’s ‘Revolution’, Will It Make It?

Revolution - Pilot - Video -

I, like a lot of you, watched the new JJ Abrams/Eric Kripke series on NBC Monday night called ‘Revolution’. How long do you think it might last?

What would you do if the lights went out, and stayed out for 15 years? Could you survive? What would the world look like with no cell phones, cars, computers or any modern convenience, not because we couldn’t build it, but because the lights just won’t work anymore. That’s the premise of the series and the thing that makes it so interesting is there are a lot of people that have been thinking along those lines for several years now. What to do, how to prepare for a worst case scenario as portrayed in this series.

I watched it, I liked it. It’s one of those rare times in television that makes you actually think. Wow, how would my family react to something like that, where could we go? How long would we last before the food ran out?

Let’s get off the ‘bummer’ aspect of the show and talk about entertainment value for a minute because that’s where this article is going, and that’s where ‘Revolution’ already is. It’s entertaining, I enjoyed the story immensely. Plus it left me with a lot of question from the git go. Besides the obvious ones of how did this happen and why can’t the get the power back on.

Questions like;

  • With around 300 million firearms in the US, why are they shooting flintlocks and bow and arrows?
  • Where did Charlie get that rockin’ leather outfit 15 years after the lights went out. Seems a little stylish to fit the scenario.
  • Do they have any real prepper consultants on this show, and if they do, are they paying attention to them?
  • How long before they rip this show out from under us?

That last one is the one I care about most because, let’s be honest here, as soon as you start liking  a show too much that’s when they take it and move it to the night they really wanted it on in the first place. Now it’s in direct competition with a show you’ve been watching for years so the new show gets DVR’d and you end up watching it when you can, not when the networks want you to. The networks get pissy because nobody is watching the show on the night they wanted them to so they move it again to try and get a larger viewing audience while it’s playing instead of DVR viewing. When that night doesn’t work they eventually move it to Friday night and soon thereafter it will be dead.

Sound familiar?

Well I hope I’m wrong for ‘Revolution’, the series stars Billy Burke, Tracy Spiridakos, Anna Lise Phillips, Zak Orth, Graham Rogers, JD Pardo, Giancarlo Esposito, David Lyons, Maria Howell, Daniella Alonso, Tim Guinee and Elizabeth Mitchell.

Executive Producers are Eric Kripke, J.J. Abrams and Bryan Burk.
