Older Restaurants in Texarkana That Are Still in Business
Countless generations of families have made eating in some local restaurants a tradition whether it be after church or just for a family outing. That led me to thinking about just how many old local restaurants are still in business in Texarkana.
As a child I remember going to Bryce's with my family when they were located in their original location downtown. Bryce's has been a staple in Texarkana since 1931 founded by Bryce Lawrence Sr., and I know people who have traveled near and far to eat there. Known for serving some of the best southern style food made fresh daily in their kitchen. Bryce's has something for everyone. Make sure you try their made-from-scratch homemade pies and cakes.
Located downtown, TLC has been around since the 80s serving up some of the best burgers around with fresh home-cooked fries topped off with what they call a dash of Red River Sand (seasoning). When I was a kid this location was originally a pharmacy that also had an ice cream parlor and sandwich shop. Going in there is like stepping back in time because the floors are original.
Long before national chain steakhouses started popping up in Texarkana the Cattleman's Steak House had been serving up some of the best steaks and prime rib this side of the Red River. And it still does. Oh, did I mention some of the best jalapeno cornbread around? Roy Oliver opened the doors in the 60s and has been in business for over 49 years making this place a longtime local favorite.
Wayne's Family Restaurant on Lake Drive has been serving Texarkana for years with some of the greatest home-cooked meals around including some of the best catfish and chicken fried steak you'll ever sink your teeth into. The building at this location was originally Rawleigh Burger for those who might remember.
Best known as Sue N' Carols restaurant, this local eatery has had several locations around town but have now settled at their current location on North State Line Ave. Sue N' Carols is known for their down home southern cooked food like mouth watering catfish, home style meatloaf, pork loin, burgers, and homemade pies and desserts. They're also known for serving up one of the best breakfasts in town. Sue Sanders Hall the co-founder of this beloved restaurant, which has been around since the early 70s, passed away June 2, 2016.
