Ryan Lochte has danced his final dance on Dancing With the Stars.

The Olympic gold medalist swimmer was voted off the dancing competition show, along with his partner Cheryl Burke, on Monday, October 31, after failing to impress with a Halloween-themed tango.

“I learned a lot about myself, that I can… no matter how hard I get knocked down, that I can keep fighting,” the former contestant told host Erin Andrews following his emotional elimination.

“I’m sad that I’m going home, but everyone here has touched me in a special place right here,” he added, touching his heart.

Lochte, who received a standing ovation as he bid the show farewell during Week 8, got off to a rocky start at the beginning of the season.

During the season premiere on September 12, protesters upset with the Olympian’s controversial behavior in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil stormed the stage wearing anti-Lochte t-shirts after Lochte made his dance floor debut.

Speaking to Entertainment Tonight following the live show, Lochte shared of the incident, “Honestly, it felt like someone just reached inside, took my heart out and tore it to shreds. I was really hurt when I saw that and I was in shock. But I looked at Cheryl [Burke] and she just smiled and said, ‘You just did what you said you can’t do. You danced in front of millions.’ And I was like, ‘You’re right.'”
