A 14 year-old is hospitalized in critical condition following a shooting that occurred Monday night in Southwest Arkansas.

Miller County Deputies were called at about 11PM to the 11000 block of Highway 71 in reference to the shooting. The parent who called 911 reportedly stated her child had accidentally shot his friend.

Deputies and first responders arrived at the residence and found the male 14-year-old in critical condition.  Deputies closed a section of U.S. Hwy 71 to allow LifeNet’s helicopter to land.  The juvenile was airlifted to LSUS Medical Center in Shreveport where he is listed in critical condition. Sheriff's officials say the person who was handling the gun at the time it went off is also a juvenile.

The Miller County Sheriff's Office Criminal Investigation Unit responded to the scene and is currently investigating the incident.
