Not that Lucasfilm would get anyone else to score new Star Wars and Indiana Jones sequels as long as John Williams is still around, but just in case there was any doubt, Steven Spielberg has officially confirmed the legendary composer’s return for both franchises. The announcement appropriately took place during last night’s AFI tribute to Williams, who received a Lifetime Achievement Award for his contributions to cinema.

The news quickly made its way to Twitter, of course:

Spielberg is set to direct Indiana Jones 5, with Harrison Ford returning to reprise his iconic role as the adventurous hero. Disney has slated the sequel for July 19, 2019, with David Koepp (Jurassic Park) attached to pen the screenplay.

As for Star Wars: Episode VIII, Rian Johnson is nearing the end of production on The Force Awakens follow-up, which features the return of Daisy Ridley, John Boyega, Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher and pretty much everyone else from the last film. They’ll be joined by Laura Dern and Benicio Del Toro in unspecified roles, though the latter is said to be playing a new antagonist.

And, of course, John Williams will be back to provide original music for both projects. Some fans and critics felt that Williams’ score for The Force Awakens was a little too derivative of his original trilogy score and not necessarily his best work, while others were happy with the nostalgic familiarity of his new compositions. Then again, some also felt as though The Force Awakens rehashed A New Hope a little too much, so maybe Williams’ score was right on the money.

Either way, we’re getting new Indiana Jones and Star Wars sequels with new John Williams scores, which is definitely something to be happy about.
