The Texas A&M University-Texarkana Campus Activities Board and Office of Student Life will present the solo play called. “They Call Me Q.”

The play  will be presented on Wednesday, March 23, at 7 p.m. in Eagle Hall of the University Center on the A&M-Texarkana campus.

“They Call Me Q” is the story of a girl from Bombay growing up in the Boogie Down Bronx who gracefully seeks balance between cultural pressure and wanting acceptance into the American culture.
Along the journey, Qurrat Ann Kadwani transforms into 13 characters that have shaped her life, including her parents, Caucasian teachers, Puerto Rican classmates, and Indian and African-American friends.
Laden with heart and abundant humor, “They Call Me Q” speaks to the universal search for identity experienced by immigrants of all nationalities.
Kadwani is the first South Asian female to have a solo play produced Off Broadway, which ran for seven months in 2014. She has won best actress, best play, trailblazer, cultural, state and city awards for “They Call Me Q.”  She has been featured on Fox News, and Fox 5 NY deemed her "A Woman Who Shapes the Future" for her commitment to diversity.
Her TV credits include “Law and Order: SVU,” “What Would You Do?,” “The Blacklist,” “Luke Cage,” “Falling Water” and “One Life to Live.” She is the founding artistic director of eyeBLINK, a multicultural nonprofit arts organization that promotes diversity within educational and entertaining programming.
She also is the founder of Echoes of Love, an annual event that raises funds and awareness for suicide prevention organizations with the help of live musicians. She also assists with the coordination of A Slice of Hope, an annual national project that spreads hope and joy at homeless shelters with pizza parties and live musicians.
“We are thrilled to invite Ms. Kadwani to our campus,” said Celeste McNiel, assistant director of Student Life at A&M-Texarkana. “I have had the opportunity to see her perform portions of the show, and it is interesting, funny and inspiring. I think that Ms. Kadwani's accolades speak for the quality of the show itself and to the types of quality programming we are bringing our students at A&M-Texarkana and the greater Texarkana community.
We would love to invite the entire community out to join us.”
Following her performance, Kadwani will host a question and answer session.
