Consistent winning is something the Texas High Tiger football team has been doing for a long time.

The Tigers have been winning year in and year out since Head Football Coach Barry Norton came to lead the team back in the late 1990s. Coach Norton came in wanting to instill a winning attitude and work ethic from the junior high through high school and that is what he has accomplished. Included in that -- a Texas State High School Championship.

Our kids worked extremely hard and hopefully the gains will show on the field.

Coach Norton is optimistic about having another winning season this year at Texas High. The 2015 team once again won a share of the District Championship and grew each week, and Coach Norton hopes this team will emulate that this season.

Coach Norton says the off season workouts was one of the best that they have had in terms of gaining strength in their program.

"Our kids worked extremely hard and hopefully the gains will show on the field," he says.

The Tigers have another good turnout as far as numbers are concerned with roughly 250 athletes playing football in grades 9-12.

Texas High has some experience coming back on offense with six starters returning from last year's team. They will have a lot of new faces on defense with only one returning starter from 2015.

Coach Norton does not anticipate many changes as far as what they run on offense and defense, just minor adjustments to fit the talents of this year's players.

"I am hoping that each kid is able to provide leadership in their own way. I don't like to single out kids. As always, you hope to get great leadership from your seniors."

The coach said he believes the district will have great balance and he believes Marshall and his Tigers will be considered the favorites heading into the season.

Coach Norton has some goals for this team and it's something they strive for every year at Texas High. He hopes his Tigers win the opener, win the city championship, win all home games, win the district, and make a run in the State Playoffs.

With the consistent winning that Coach Norton has instilled at Texas High is there anyone who cares to bet against that happening?

"It's going to be a fun year," he says.
