The subject of mental health and therapy have been the subject of conversation as of late, and recently Tina Knowles Lawson added her voice to the topic.

In an interview with Maria Shriver (via TMZ), Momma Tina shared that she sent her superstar daughters Beyoncé and Solange to therapy as kids. The matriarch felt it was important that her daughters get counseling so they can handle their competitiveness of each other.

“I was very sensitive to that because I grew up where...my mother liked my brother more...she loved him more, so I was really sensitive to it...so I had days that I devoted,” she explained. “On Wednesdays I would take off of work and that was Solange’s day.”

"So it was tough because [Solange] was only five years old and Beyoncé was this little superstar in our city,” she continued. “I took them to counseling very early so that he counselor could help Beyoncé be more sensitive to Solange because she couldn’t stand her for a minute.”

“When they were little, she (Solange) was all in her stuff. She was trying to hang around with her and her friends and Beyonce was really irritated,” she added. “It made her more sensitive to who her sister was and what she had to deal with because of her.”

Momma Tina said that her family members told her that she would make her daughters crazy by taking them to counseling but, in reality, she did the right thing because Beyoncé and Solange's sisterly bond is stronger than ever.

“My family was like, ‘You’re gonna make them crazy! They’re too young for you to take them!’" she said. "I wanted Beyonce to be sensitive to the fact that Solange had to deal with being a little bit in her shadow and it made her way more sensitive and protective."

“They’re still fiercely protective of each other," she concluded.

Props to Tina Knowles Lawson for seeking professional help for their daughters at an early age.

After watching Beyoncé and Solange's wonderful performance at the 2018 Coachella Music and Arts Festival, it all makes sense now.
