What a great day for shooting and a terrific turnout for our very first USPSA/IPSC match for 2012 at the Texarkana Gun Club.

Last Saturday started off a little cool, but it quickly turned into bright sunshine and mild temperatures that set the tone for a fun day of shooting. We welcomed 38 shooters for our first match of the year including most of our usual folks and a bunch of new faces.

The match included five very well designed and challenging stages, and let me take a moment right now to thank those that put a lot of extra effort in designing and constructing those stages every month. It's not an easy task and they don't get enough praise for the extra effort it takes. Without them, these matches couldn't happen. Thank you all very much.

Here's a listing of our top 10 overall shooters for the day:

  1. Bryan Pool
  2. Lincoln Hassell
  3. Mark Woodfield
  4. Kelly Murray
  5. Rusty Edwards
  6. Harold Norris
  7. Josh Blackstone
  8. Gerald Meharry
  9. Chuck Moody
  10. Ted Smethers

As for little 'ol me, I seem to have picked up right where left off last season, middle of the pack. I finished 18th overall, 10th in my division. Nothing to be ashamed of, it was a pretty decent day for me. The biggest highlight in my mind was the fact that my hand loaded bullets were flawless, as was my Taurus PT 24/7. Me, not so much.

If we don't get rained out, this Saturday is our Steel Challenge match for March. Gates open at 8:30am, shooters can start signing up at 9:30, the match should begin around 10am. For more information on how much fun and family friendly the Steel Challenge matches are, check out the video on our website.

If you plan on making it to any of our matches, especially in the spring, it would be a great idea to follow us either on Facebook or Twitter. Those two sites are our only way to let you know if a match gets cancelled on short notice due to weather or any other unforeseen problem.
