Three Arkansas High School (AHS) students are actively playing a positive, productive role in their communities, state and country.

AHS juniors Mica Chesshir, Patrick Cook and Madison Stanley are among forty-four students from across the state to lend their voice to federal government policies as
members of the Congressional Youth Cabinet with U.S. Senator John Boozman. The Youth Cabinet program is meant to expose students to the legislative process and opportunities for advocacy and civic engagement. The nonpartisan initiative allows students to gain firsthand experience in the democratic process.

Participants were chosen to represent all four congressional districts with an
emphasis on community involvement and leadership. Mica, Patrick and Madison -
members on the 4th congressional district committee - researched, wrote, and
presented their draft of the bill addressing internet sales tax. The seven-member
committee began their work in September and met via Skype to craft a proposal on
their topic, based on their own research and background knowledge.

Senator Boozman’s goal of the program is to foster lifetime commitments to civic
engagement and public service. “I am proud of these Arkansans for taking a
proactive step to learn more about how they can make a difference and be a force
for good,” Boozman said. “I was pleased to join students from across the state and
hear their ideas for legislation on the issues of rural broadband and internet sales
taxes.”
