Conservation Success
The American alligator was once endangered due to habitat loss, overhunting, and pollution, facing near extinction. Thanks to significant conservation efforts and legislative actions, they were removed from the endangered species list in 1987. Today, approximately 5 million American alligators thrive in the wild.
The Little Rock Zoo supports the Orianne Society and other organizations dedicated to reptile conservation through donations, including funds collected from parking fees and generous online gifts from Zoo fans.
Come celebrate Amos' special day and learn more about the remarkable conservation journey of the American alligator!
