
Game On! Texas A&M-Texarkana Unveils Major Athletic Growth
Texas A&M University - Texarkana is growing and to prove it they just made the announcement they will be adding several new sports programs this fall.
Back in early June the university sent out a 5 year flight plan and one of those things on the list was athletics. They aren't wasting any time as the plan was to add seven new sports programs in the next 5 years and three programs are being added this year.
During a press conference on Thursday July 10th they announced they will start expanding their Athetlic Department lineup right away. Texas A&M - Texarkana Eagles will be adding Men's and Women's Bowling, Men's and Women's Golf, and they will be expanding the Men's and Women's Indoor/Outdoor Track and Fieldin their lineup. With the latter, the university already has a great cross-country presence but this will be the first time for full track and field teams to compete.
Coaches for the new sports are Michael Flanagan for the Bowling teams. Ryan Huntze will head the Golf teams, and David Lawrence Jr. will be coaching Cross-Country and the Indoor/Outdoor Track and Field teams.
University officials also announced new coaches to already existing sports. Brian Nelson will lead Men's and Women's Tennis, Deacon Jones will head the Women's Basketball program. Chase Brewster will officaily now be the head Baseball coach after service last season as interim and Darion Brown has been promoted to head coach of the Men's Basketball team.
And lets not forget about the great coaches that are returning this year. Rick Allen's second season on Esports, Don Koontz returning for a 10th season with Men's/Womens Soccor, Tony McKnight's second season with the Softball team and Madeleine Halford returning for a 4th season with the Volleyball and Beach Volleyball.
