Man Arrested After Standoff with Deputies, Accused of Assaulting Elderly Parents
A Texarkana man was arrested Wednesday following a standoff with law enforcement after allegedly assaulting his elderly parents.
Deputies with the Bowie County Sheriff’s Office (BCSO) responded to a home on Danube Avenue on August 7 after a report of a family violence assault. When officers arrived, they encountered 50-year-old Michael Casey Dodson outside the home. Deputies recognized Dodson from previous incidents at the same address.
According to the sheriff’s office, Dodson fled back into the house and barricaded himself on the second floor. Authorities believed he was armed with a handgun, prompting a coordinated response from multiple agencies. Negotiators from the BCSO, Texas Department of Public Safety, and Texarkana Texas Police Department attempted to communicate with Dodson, but he refused to come out.
The Texarkana Texas Police SWAT team was called in and eventually deployed a chemical agent into the upstairs area. In an attempt to avoid the gas, Dodson reportedly climbed into the attic but fell through the ceiling into the first floor, where he was taken into custody without further incident.
Dodson was booked into the Bowie County Jail on two counts of Injury to an Elderly Individual, Family Violence, and Interference with an Emergency Call. Bond had not been set as of Thursday morning.
The sheriff’s office thanked area law enforcement agencies for their assistance, noting that the joint response helped bring the incident to a safe conclusion.
