Well Water Testing Offered for Bowie, Cass, and Red River Counties
Texas residents of Bowie, Cass, and Red River counties will have a chance to test their private well water during upcoming screening events in May hosted by the Texas Well Owner Network (TWON).
Water samples will be accepted on Monday, May 6, from 8:30 to 10:00 AM at the following locations:
- Bowie County: AgriLife Extension Office, 710 James Bowie Dr., New Boston
- Cass County: AgriLife Extension Office, 1008 N. Louise St., Atlanta
- Red River County: AgriLife Extension Office, 402 N. Cedar St., Clarksville
Samples will be tested for coliform bacteria, E. coli, nitrate-nitrogen, arsenic, and salinity.
To participate, residents should pick up sampling kits and instructions in advance from their local AgriLife Extension Office. The cost is $15 per sample, and multiple samples can be submitted. Only the official kits will be accepted.
A follow-up meeting, called “Well Informed,” will be held at 10:00 AM on Tuesday, May 7, in the Central Jury Room of the Bowie County Courthouse, 710 James Bowie Dr., New Boston. At the meeting, experts will go over test results and provide guidance for well maintenance and water safety.
TWON helps private land/well owners to understand water quality, well upkeep, and the potential risks to health and property.
