Texas DPS Working Hard This Week on Special Initiative
(KNUE-FM) We all know that Texas law enforcement officers are nothing to joke around about, they take their job to serve and protect very seriously.
While the Texas Department of Public Safety is normally working on more serious crime cases across the Lone Star State, this week there is special emphasis on keeping you safe.
The Department of Public Safety is working on a distracted driving enforcement initiative, specifically looking for distracted driving from April 7th through April 14th.

What Will Texas DPS Patrols Be Looking For?
The three big infractions that patrols will be looking for include drivers who are texting or spending time focused on their phone while they are operating a motor vehicle.
Although it’s not just about being distracted by your phone, patrols will be looking for any sort of distracted driving, as that can often lead to unnecessary crashes.
Patrols will also be watching to see if drivers are failing to move over when an emergency vehicle is on the shoulder with lights activated.

Why the Emphasis on Driving Right Now in Texas?
There has been an increase in troopers being struck while working on the roadside and often those incidents happen due to distracted driving.
They are asking every Texan to put the phone down and give the road your full attention.
How Many Citations and Warnings Last Year During This Time?
In 2024 during this same week distracted driving enforcement efforts ended up with over 67,440 citations or warnings being issued.
4,815 speeding citations, 303 seat belt tickets, 1,630 violations for driving without insurance, and 345 felony and fugitive arrests took place.
Drive safely or you will be pulled over this week.
