I don’t know about you, but I’m not interested in taking a ride in a robotaxi. It turns out that I’m in line with the majority of Texans.

Call me old-fashioned or whatever you want, but I just can’t imagine myself ever getting comfortable in a vehicle without a living, breathing human being behind the wheel. I’m not exaggerating when I tell you that I would be a nervous wreck the entire time.

I know there are folks out there who will defend driverless vehicles by pointing out that most traffic accidents are caused by human error. My counter to that would be that we have only had a very, very small sample size when it comes to driverless vehicles compared to years and years of human drivers.

But it’s not like there aren’t documented cases of autonomous vehicles messing up. Hell, a video of one running a red light in Dallas just made the rounds on social media.

Keep in mind that we’re not talking about any old traffic here. Oh no, that was in Dallas, where crazy traffic is a way of life.

And then there’s this video of a robotaxi stopping dangerously close to a train in Austin.

So, it’s no surprise that a study conducted by Murphy & Practhauser found that 62.3% of Texans polled said that they were not comfortable with robotaxis. And to be honest with you, I expected the percentage to be much higher.
