The entire Crossroads community was shocked by the details in a disturbing press release by Victoria County Sheriff Justin Marr. According to the release, deputies are looking into a disturbing situation involving a 13-year-old girl who was almost kidnapped and assaulted.

Just after 1 a.m. on May 16, 2025, someone called in a welfare check near the 900 block of US Highway 59 South after spotting a dirt bike left on the side of the road. When deputies showed up, they found the girl walking along the highway, waving for help.

Turns out, she had left home on her dirt bike, which broke down near US Highway 87 South and FM 1686. A man and a woman pulled over and offered to help, saying they'd go get a vehicle to haul the bike. A little while later, the man came back alone, loaded up the dirt bike, offered her a ride, and drove off with her.

That's when things took a terrifying turn. Instead of taking her where she needed to go, the man drove to a remote area alone with the young teen girl.

When he found the remote spot, the man proceeded to lock the doors and attempted to sexually assault the victim. Heroically, the teen was quick-thinking and was able to escape.

As she continued to escape and get away, the teen girl was located by deputies.

By around 5:30 that morning, deputies tracked down the suspect, 32-year-old Emilio Hernandez-Ortiz III, and took him into custody. He’s now facing a charge of Aggravated Kidnapping. The investigation is still underway.
