Now The U.S. Government Wants To Move To Texas. Who’s Coming?
Texas has apparently become THE place to be if you own a multi-billion dollar company. Over the last several years, we've seen a lot of companies sliding into the state for various different reasons.
Many have started basing their headquarters out of Texas, while having smaller pieces in different states, but the influx of companies moving their overall operations to Texas is staggering.
Elon Musk decided to move X, and SpaceX to Texas, and now Mark Zuckerberg has followed suit and started migrating Meta to the state. The reason behind Zuck sliding into Texas is kind of two-fold.
One, like many businesses, he wants to take advantage of the tax breaks it comes with. Texas has no state tax, therefore providing a better situation for companies.
Secondly, he's trying to shake the narrative that being based in California has raised a lot of concerns with users that being there creates a bias on censorship and the things we get in trouble for posting.
Now, the government is looking at moving something to Texas. U.S. Rep. Keith Self has slid a piece of legislation in front of everyone that would move U.S. Customs and Border Protection from Washington D.C. to Texas.
What are the reasons for wanting that? Well it's more about reducing costs more than anything. With the agency so far away from the border in D.C., moving it to Texas would decentralize the agency’s bureaucracy as well as reduce costs with the agency.
I'd imagine there is a ton of travel costs incurred being so far away from the border, and considering that's their job, being near the border would definitely lessen costs while improving the operations most likely.
President-elect Trump has indicated he wants to move many jobs from D.C. to different parts of the country. This could be the beginning of that process if the legislation goes through.
