The Franklin Mountains, luckily for us, run right through the city making them easy to enjoy via a drive, hike or vantage point. Most of Texas' other ranges are kinda remote.

Technically speaking, every US state has mountains but most of those "mountains" are really just "high" or "highest" points in the state. Hills, maybe. The USA only has 8 mountain states and ... WTH?? ... Texas isn't one of them.

I guess nobody told Texas that because, believe it or not, we have a total of 13 mountain ranges within our borders.

The Franklin Mountains are here in El Paso and, technically, stretch thousands of miles north of El Paso as part of a bigger range that goes from the southern US border to the northern one. They're a segment of the Rocky Mountains which run about 3,000 miles across the USA from El Paso to Canada.

Texas Mountains Can Be Dangerous

The Franklin Mountains are easily accessible but other ranges in west Texas are very remote and require some planning to visit. Keep your wits about you though, some of the Texas ranges, like the Sierra Del Carmen and the Chisas mountain ranges are in one of the nations deadliest national parks.
