The New Boston Police Department reports that a local man was arrested for unauthorized use of a vehicle, evading arrest, and possession of one gram of a controlled substance. The suspect has been identified as Richard Glen Drinkard. On Wednesday, Dec. 23, 2015 around 1:25PM while Deputy Westin Fannin was watching a known drug trafficking location in the DeKalb area, a gold colored Honda Civic pulled out of the driveway. The driver of this vehicle accelerated at a high rate of speed running through a stop sign when he noticed Deputy Fannin’s patrol unit. Deputy Fannin activated his emergency lights and sirens to stop this car for the violation. The driver of the car continued to increase his speed refusing to pull over for Deputy Fannin. Once Deputy Fannin was able to get the license plate number from this car, he had dispatch run the registration. The vehicle came back reported stolen.

The driver pulled over at the intersection of Farm to Market 990 and Interstate 30 and exited his vehicle acting as if he were going to flee on foot. When Deputy Fannin saw the driver he recognized him as Richard Glenn Drinkard from previous dealings with him. Drinkard jumped back in the stolen Honda Civic and drove off entering Interstate 30 with Deputy Fannin still in pursuit. Drinkard exited Interstate 30 on Highway 82 where the chase continued to a residence in the 300 block of North Merrill Street in New Boston. Deputy Fannin pulled next to the Honda to prevent Drinkard from reentering the roadway, while Texas Department of Public Safety Trooper Justin Hilton pulled behind the vehicle for the same reason. The stolen Honda Drinkard was driving slid into Deputy Fannin’s patrol unit causing him to slide into another vehicle. When Drinkard’s vehicle came to rest he fled on foot, but was captured after a short foot pursuit.

A male ran from the vehicle that Deputy Fannin’s vehicle slid into and he was also captured after a short foot pursuit. This subject was identified as Matthew Watson. Watson was found to have an outstanding theft warrant out of the New Boston Police Department. Watson was arrested and turned over directly to the New Boston Police Department. During an inventory of the stolen car Drinkard was driving, a bag of a crystal like substance believed to be methamphetamine was found. This substance gave a positive reaction to a field test kit for methamphetamine. Drinkard was transported to the Bi-State Jail where he was booked in for Unauthorized Use of a Vehicle, Evading Arrest with a Vehicle and Possession of a Controlled Substance Under One Gram. Bonds have not been set for Drinkard’s charges at this time.
