As you probably know, I am a huge Beatles fan! I have been since I was six years old. So, they have practically been a lifelong love, but how I discovered the Beatles was really by a small but funny twist of fate.     People have assumed that because I have three older brothers and two older sisters that I found out about the Beatles through them, but I didn't. They didn't have much in the way of records. With my parents raising six kids, records were a luxury to buy, so my parents had the classics and that's about it.

The Beatles had broken up by the time I discovered them. I was playing at my friend Jennifer's house whose older sisters did have records. Jennifer and I honed in on the only Monkees album they had and we played it over and over and over again.  Well, I guess her brother and probably everyone in the house got sick of hearing it. I remember her brother coming in with another album and saying "Hey, why don't you check this out? We have lots of their albums." I remember him handing us the "Something New" album and the love affair began!

I was EVERYTHING Beatles after that and so was Jennifer. My mother liked my Beatlemania and laughed saying "We used to think the Beatles were so bad! Look at that long hair!" Ha! Now, that is funny!

As I got older, I appreciated their music even more. I mean really! Listen to their early records and then listen to how they progress in their artistry to the later albums. Wow! Can you even think of a band that evolved like the Beatles did in just seven years? Their influence wasn't just in music, but in pop culture as well, from hairstyles to clothing to movies to peaceful protests.

My favorite Beatles song? I really can't just name one! It depends on my mood and things going on in my life. Below are just a few of my favorites!

When the Beatles stopped performing live in 1966, they started releasing short films to go with their songs...Yeah, WAY before MTV! See what I mean about influential?  Below is the video for Penny Lane. I love this one because it was filmed on Penny Lane in their hometown, Liverpool! By the way I've been there! Oh it was awesome and I cried when we had to leave! My husband found a twig, yes, a twig on Penny Lane and I still have it. I know it's silly but I love that twig! LOL!

LOVE, LOVE this next one! Be sure to listen to the effects of music playing backwards for the first time in a song.

This one is amazing to me! This was shown live world wide:

"All You Need Is Love" It was first performed by The Beatles on Our World, the first live global television link. Watched by 400 million in 26 countries, the program was broadcast via satellite on 25 June 1967. The BBC had commissioned The Beatles to write a song for the United Kingdom's contribution.

Are you starting to see and understand the total awesomeness of The Beatles?

I could literally go on and on about how great the Beatles were and are, but simply put, they were the most influential band EVER!  I so wish I could have seen them perform live!  Then again, I would have been one of those girls you see on the old T.V. clips where they are wailing and in total hysterics! Yeah, that would have been me, but how cool to have experienced it!

A couple of years ago the Beatles tribute band 1964 performed at the Perot and I was pretty upset that I was out of town that night. I heard from friends that it was a great show and blast to experience.

To my pleasant surprise the band is coming back to the Perot Theatre! 1964:The Tribute will perform on Saturday, July 20! So, if you go and you hear someone screaming her head off and acting like a 13-year-old girl at a Justin Bieber concert...Well, that will be me :)
