A portion of central and western Bowie County in Northeast Texas is under a boil water notice.

The Central Bowie County Water Supply Corporation is advising its customers to boil the water they are consuming until further notice.

The corporation website states "due to loss of disinfection residual in parts of the system, the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) has required our water system, Central Bowie County WSC, PWS ID 0190024, to notify customers of the need to boil their water prior to consumption."

To ensure destruction of all harmful bacteria and other microbes, water for drinking, cooking, and making ice should be boiled and cooled prior to use. The water should be brought to a vigorous, rolling boil and then boiled for two minutes. In lieu of boiling, you may purchase bottled water or obtain water from some other suitable source.

When it is no longer necessary to boil the water, the water system officials will notify customers that the water is safe for consumption. Instructions to discontinue boiling will be issued in the same manner as this notice.

The corporation has made public plans for the  Board of Directors to meet in special session at their office this Monday evening at 6PM. The agenda includes an open/public discussion, consider and take action on water quality improvement alternatives, an executive session, and then discuss and take action on items discussed in executive session.

The corporation is a member owned not-for-profit water supply corporation which was formed back in 1971 and currently serves more than 2,600 connections.
