Fear not, citizens! New York’s finest streaming superheroes will finally hit the streets in late August. No, not The Defenders, but Amazon’s The Tick! Spoon your loved ones and check out a new August premiere teaser.

Amazon released their list of what to look forward to streaming on their instant video service next month, and May has some absolute winners. Not only did the site nab Oscar nominee Manchester by the Sea, they’ll also have available to stream last year’s Best Picture winner Moonlight, their new Original Series Dino Dana and I Love Dick, and a ton of classic James Bond movies.

True Detective didn’t exactly pan out for Colin Farrell, but Amazon might welcome him back to TV. The Lobster star is re-teaming with director Yorgos Lanthimos for a new Amazon limited series about the Iran-Contra affair, with Farrell portraying Oliver North.

For several years now, I have heard that VHS is the new vinyl. But aside from the occasional thinkpiece on the topic, I haven‘t see much tangible evidence to support that statement. A couple of the few remaining video stores in New York carry the analog tapes, but there hasn’t been a surge in new stores or specialty shops full of vintage VHS or VCRs. (And I live in Brooklyn; if such a place existed, it would be here.) With a few minor exceptions, I thought VHS was basically dead.

We thought perhaps John Krasinski’s Amazon take on Jack Ryan had finished its major cast, but with production looming, another major name joins the fray. Film icon Peter Fonda will join the series in a “key” role, beginning with the first episode.

If the Amazon crop of pilots seemed especially strong this past summer, they tend to agree with you. Not only does our rebooted version of The Tick now have a series order, but so too will Jean-Claude Van Damme’s Jean-Claude Van Johnson live to fight another day, while Kathryn Hahn will continue to express her love of Dick. There is nothing funny about that, stop snickering.

The moment Amazon confirmed The Tick for another live-action update, superhero fans had to wonder if the big blue bug would be getting the ol’ gritty Dark Knight treatment. The lighting is just as dark (they do share a cinematographer), but our first full clips from the new series give Peter Serafinowicz a spoonful of that trademark bluster.

Just when you thought Comic-Con 2016 wouldn’t bring you enough superheroes, it’s Amazon’s live-action adaptation of The Tick! Yes, the big blue bug is back, as Amazon sets an August debut with the first photos of Peter Serafinowicz in costume, along with release dates for Jean Claude Van Damme’s new series and more.

This week Amazon launched its standalone Instant Video streaming plan (a whole dollar cheaper than Netflix's monthly fee), which should entice those of you who put off by Amazon Prime's annual fees. If you need further convincing, there's plenty of great new content coming to the service next month, like HBO favorites Mr. Show With Bob and David and Boardwalk Empire, and lots of films both old and new. Multiple outlets have launched individual standalone options to match that of industry leader Netflix, though Amazon has consistently lagged behind for its streaming service’s tether to an overall Prime rate of $99 per year. No longer, as Amazon Prime launches a far more competitive monthly streaming subscription on par with Netflix, as well as a new Prime rate for shopping.

The tenth season of Doctor Who will keep us all invested on the road to 2017, but fans will thankfully have more to enjoy beyond a Christmas special this year. After abandoning the Netflix ship, all nine seasons of the current Doctor Who will resurface on Amazon Prime to rewatch.
