Get ready for a great day of food, fun and live music in March. It's the 4th Annual Wagons for Veterans Cookout fundraiser and will all take place this Saturday, March 12.

This time of year when the temperatures drop it's time for some good old-fashioned Chili. Mark your calendars for the Texarkana Area Veterans Council 22nd Annual Chili Cook-Off.

Texas will honor all active and retired military by waiving daily entrance fees at all Texas State Parks, day-use visitors only, Sunday, Nov. 14.

The annual Veterans Day Parade and the 30th Anniversary Re-Dedication of the Korean/Vietnam Memorial will be happening next month in Texarkana.

The Texas A&M University-Texarkana Veterans Services office and Student Veterans Association will celebrate “More than Just a Day” during the week of November 7-11 in honor of the nation’s veterans and active-duty military.

Overton Brooks VA Medical Center, including the VA Outpatient Clinics in Monroe, Louisiana; Texarkana, Arkansas; and Longview, Texas will offer flu shots to enrolled Veterans during scheduled clinic appointments and in special walk-in flu shot clinics as outlined below. There is no charge for the flu shot and Veterans are reminded to bring their VA identification card.

Overton Brooks VA Medical Center (OBVAMC) will host a Town Hall and outreach event on Thursday, September 22, 2016 from 5-6PM at the Holiday Inn Arkansas Convention Center, Magnolia Room, 5200 Convention Plaza Drive, Texarkana, Ark., 71854.

The 20th Annual Veterans Information Fair is coming up in Texarkana on Armed Forces Day, which is Saturday, May 21.

Veterans Day is always observed on Nov. 11 with speeches and parades across the U.S. The holiday began as Armistice Day on Nov. 11, 1919, the first anniversary of the end of World War I. There are several events planned for the Texarkana area on Wednesday Nov. 11, to honor our local veterans.

Some help for veterans in need will be made available this Friday.

Memorial Day is about more than just cookouts, picnics, water fun, and a day off from school or work. It is about honoring our service men and women who have died while serving our country, and to remember those who served proudly and have since passed on.

On Monday Nov. 11, Texas Roadhouse will give lunch free to all active, former and retired military personnel from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
