Texas High Student Council Adviser Wins National Award
Susan Waldrep, who is the Texas High Student Council Adviser, has just been named the Student Council Adviser of the year in the entire United States.
Waldrep had been named as one of eight finalist earlier in the Spring and is now recognized as the top Student Council Adviser of the year in the country.
Each year, the National Association of Student Councils (NASC) presents two National Adviser of the Year Awards – Middle School and High School – in honor of Warren E. Shull, who founded the NASC in 1931. This year, Texas High School’s very own Student Council Advisor, Susan Waldrep, was among the eight national finalists considered for the top award.
Waldrep has served as Texas High’s Leadership Teacher and Student Activities Coordinator for the past 17 years and has guided her council to ten consecutive National Gold Council of Excellence Awards and 30 consecutive District 19 Sweepstakes Awards. Additionally, the Texas High School Student Council has served in all officer positions at the District level, as well as Texas Association of Student Councils (TASC) President, Vice President, and Conference Coordinator School.
“The finalists for the Warren E. Shull Award are skilled educators who epitomize the commitment student council advisers make to promote leadership, service and civic engagement as qualities of good citizens through student council,” said Ann Postlewaite, Director of NASSP Student Programs. “National Student Council congratulates Susan for her exemplary efforts to nurture and develop these qualities in high school student leaders.”
Waldrep’s leadership has been recognized through her selection as District 19 Adviser of the Year in 2011, Past President Adviser, District Coordinator for 2014-16, TASC’s Eddie G. Bull State Adviser of the Year and NASC’s Warren E. Shull State nominee and Regional nominee representing Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Mississippi, Puerto Rico and Texas.
The Warren E. Shull Award is given to the high school student council adviser who demonstrates exemplary character, leadership and commitment to young people and their development as student leaders.
Waldrep was recognized with the other finalist and named the national winner during the NASC Conference in Plymouth, Minnesota.
Congratulations to Texas High's Susan Waldrep.
