The Texas High Tigers Baseball team is ready to roar in the 2017 season.

The Tigers have in Head Coach John McClure, a veteran who is used to winning teams at Texas High. Coach McClure has been at Texas High for 13 years, including the last 6 as head coach of the  Tigers.

Texas High comes off another successful season in 2016 when they were district champions with a 21-5 record.

The Tigers will have a lot of youth and new faces this year. They return only 2 starters off of last years team. The squad will consist of 6 seniors, 5 juniors, and 9 sophomores.

McClure is looking for big things from his pitchers this year. Those expected to see time on the mound for the Tigers include: Colby Adkins, Walker Davis, Kyle Choate, Ruben Ramirez, Chris Sutton, and Jakob Hearne.

McClure is looking for leadership from Adkins, Choate, Sutton, and others even some of the sophomores. The Tigers have had a winning tradition for a long time in baseball and Coach McClure says that expectation is expected out of every team, every year.

Tiger baseball assistant coaches for McClure this year are: Scott Mennie, Vince Mintor, Justin Coats, Lane Elliot, and Chris Dennis.

Texas High will be vying against teams with a lot of experience this year for the 4 playoff spots, including Hallsville, who McClure says is the clear favorite going into this season.

McClure is hopeful about his young team, saying " We will have one of the youngest teams in a very long time. Lots of new faces, must be able to learn quickly and get up to speed real fast."

Even with the youth for the Tigers this year, expect them to be contending for that playoff spot again this year. Coach McClure will expect nothing less out of his Tigers.

Good luck Texas High.
