Jim Weaver on the range.

After two practice sessions I think I can say that I have figured out my feed issues from last month's match were all related to not cleaning my magazines thoroughly enough. The Taurus ran flawlessly the last two weekends. Yes, I have been cleaning my magazines, I was just missing an particular spot that was gunking up and causing the springs to jam, thereby causing feed issues. So in "theory", if I keep cleaning my mags as I am now, that problem should go away. (he says crossing fingers in hopes that no other problem creeps up)

First let me say that I don't know if this is good or not, but this past weekend my practice session included a drill called the El Presidente'. If you would like to see how a real pro does it watch the video below of Max Michel. I didn't video me doing it because, really, who would watch it? But here was the somewhat surprising result, my fastest time out of 3 or 4 tries was 6.8 seconds. Now if a world champion shooter who's been doing this for years can do it in right around 3 seconds, and I can do it in 6.8 with less than a year of competition under my belt, I figure I'm doing ok. With a little more focussed practice I should be able to get that under 5 seconds in no time... maybe.

The USPSA/IPSC match for the Texarkana Gun Club is coming up this Saturday, June 4th and anyone with an interest in the shooting sports is invited to come and participate or spectate. The match starts at 10:00am, competitors should arrive by 9:30 to get signed up. Spectators must wear hearing and eye protection as well as the shooters when on the range so do keep that in mind. It's for your safety.

What ever you do, enjoy the hot weather and make sure you find something to do outside in it besides yard work for Pete's sake!
