Steel Challenge update: Two weekends ago we headed south to Longview, TX for the “Steel Challenge” match at the East Texas Rifle and Pistol Club. As predicted, fun was in fact had by all.
What a day! Not our biggest turn out of the year with only 26 shooters for the Texarkana Gun Club's USPSA September match, but what a great day, and for me, my best performance yet.
Holy Targets! Where does the time go? Seems like just a couple of weeks ago I was dying in the heat of the first Saturday of August sunshine shooting the match, now it's the end of August and I'm just now getting the chance to sit down and write about it

I just found out that our defending club champion, Odie DeHan, is going to be MIA this coming Saturday for our monthly USPSA/IPSC match at the Texarkana Gun Club due to his participation in this weekends Rocky Mountain 3-Gun match in Raton, New Mexico.
You can have the best gun in the world, but if you don't get some range time in, chances are really good when the time comes to participate in a match or worse, defend yourself and your family, you're going to miss.
Well I shot like crap! Two major factors contributed to this, heat exhaustion and, it's too dang hot for practice. (see Shooters Log from June titled "Too Danged Hot for Practice"). Even though I'm very disappointed in my performance, or lack thereof, I still had a great time as always shooting with my friends and making new ones.
On Sunday, June 19th (yes, Father's Day) I along with two of my shooting buddies, Dean and Brad, motored down to Longview to shoot in the East Texas Pistol and Rifle Club's "Steel Challenge" match. This was Dean and I's first time for this type of match, Brad's second or third I believe, and I must say hats off to the good folks in Longview, we had a great time even though it was unmerci
The practice sessions seem to be paying off, thank goodness, I hate to think I'm throwing all that ammo down range and not learning anything and getting better in the process.
After two practice sessions I think I can say that I have figured out my feed issues from last month's match were all related to not cleaning my magazines thoroughly enough. The Taurus ran flawlessly the last two weekends. Yes, I have been cleaning my magazines, I was just missing an particular spot that was gunking up and causing the springs to jam, thereby causing feed issues. So in "theory
This past weekend the Texarkana Gun Club had it's monthly USPSA/IPSC match, I actually had some high hopes going into this one that I might come out of it in a much better position than last month, alas, twas not to be, again.
This coming weekend (5/7/11) is our third USPSA/IPSC Texarkana Gun Club match of the 2011 season. As I understand it, there is another area championship match going on this same weekend near Little Rock, AR so we may not have as big a turnout as we normally do. Which come to think of it may be a great thing for lil' ol' me, maybe I'll get my first division win! Nah, that's aiming a bit too high I
