Well I shot like crap! Two major factors contributed to this, heat exhaustion and, it's too dang hot for practice. (see Shooters Log from June titled "Too Danged Hot for Practice").  Even though I'm very disappointed in my performance, or lack thereof, I still had a great time as always shooting with my friends and making new ones.

The monthly Texarkana Gun Club USPSA match always has a few shooters come in from other clubs and it's always great to see them. We usually have a few new shooters who want to give this sport a try as well, and we love helping out the newbies and walking them through the process. This match was especially sweet because two of shooting sport's royalty showed up for our match this month, Jerry and Kay Miculek. I can't begin to count how many National and regional titles have been won between this very nice married couple from the Shreveport, LA area. Jerry is currently the world record holder revolver speed shooter and Kay will be on Team USA in the upcoming International Practical Shooting Confederation (IPSC) World Shoot XVI to be held in Rhodes, Greece, in October. In fact, husband Jerry is going to be there as well representing the US in the Revolver division. So yeah, kind of a big deal for them to take time out of their busy shooting schedule to come play with us in a local club match that has no real meaning for them. We just want to them to know how much we appreciate that, and hope they get to come back sometime soon.

As for me, well I've got plenty of work to do personally as I took a giant step backward in overall performance this month. I have got to get this excess weight off before it drops me in my tracks. These skinny guys seem to be handling the heat a little better than me... OK make that a lot better than me. Lots of water and a place to sit down makes a world of difference though. Don't overdo it out there in the heat no matter what you're doing, work or play.

By the way, Kay Miculek was the overall winner in the July match, Odie DeHan came in second, West Chandler third, Richard Jones fourth and the only one slingin' a 6-shot wheel gun against all those semi-autos, Jerry Miculek came in fifth overall. Go figure!

As always, if your looking for a great place to shoot in the Ark-La-Tex, a local instructor or some new friends to shoot with, you'll find it all at TexarkanaGunClub.org.
