Steel Challenge update: Two weekends ago we headed south to Longview, TX for the “Steel Challenge” match at the East Texas Rifle and Pistol Club. As predicted, fun was in fact had by all. I managed to come in 4th in my division, of course there were only 10 of us shooting Iron Sight, Center Fire pistols but hey, I'll take a top 5 placement any day. The video below will show you what the Steel Challenge is like to shoot.

Last weekend I took my 9 year old son Tyler out to do some plinking at our range (Texarkana Gun Club), I know I should be practicing but sometimes you need to just go blow some cheap ammo and have some fun. Of course any day at the range beats the heck out of yard work, so off we went with my Ruger 10/22 with a red dot sight to see who could mow down the plate racks faster, him or me. It was me by the way, but not by much. That 9 year old little twerd is getting good at this. It won't be long before ol' dad is following him around the country to major matches hoping for scraps from the prize tables.

This weekend is the Texarkana Gun Club's final USPSA match of 2011 and we expect a big turnout. Heck Pam & Jeff of P&J Guns are letting their whole staff off and closing their doors Saturday just so everyone can shoot in the match. Should be fun! Although I've gotten close I still haven't made that Top 10 finish yet this year, I have one more chance to do it this Saturday, and I'm gonna give it my best. If you would like to join us please check out of website for all the details at the link below. Shooters need to be there by 9:30am. If you're just watching, we get the matches underway around 10am. Remember, even if you're just watching, we do require eye and ear protection.

As always, if your looking for a great place to shoot in the Ark-La-Tex, a local instructor or some new friends to shoot with, you’ll find it all at TexarkanaGunClub.org.

Shoot Safe!
