There has been a lot of talk about crime recently in the news. Texarkana gets a bad rap for being a dangerous city, but this Arkansas city is one of the 10 most deadly cities in the United States.

So the information I am going to share on each city talks about how much higher their violent crime rate is compared to the national average. It also factors in the number of murders per 100,000 residents.

So how many cities in our are in the top ten? The answer is two, unfortunately.

8. Houston, Texas

Houston makes the list in the 8th spot. The statistics are a little scary. Houston's violent crime rate is 220 percent above the national average. Houston saw 20.5 murders for every 100,000 people which was an increase over last year and they look on course to be higher still in 2022.

7. Little Rock, Arkansas

Little Rock makes the list at number 7. The crime statistics are downright scary. Little Rock's violent crime rate is 377 percent above the national average. Little Rock's murder rate is 24.8 per 100,000 people.

To give you an idea of how bad crime is in Little Rock here are some specifics from KARK.com:

For Little Rock, violent crime dropped from 2017 to 2018, from 2,432 violent crimes to 2,201. Then violent crime began steadily climbing to 3,007 violent crime incidents in 2021, a 36% increase from 2018. Homicide reflects an even steeper climb for Little Rock, with 31 incidents in 2019, its lowest year since 2015, followed by a steady rise to 60 in 2021, nearly double over the 12 years.

I know that I have made plenty of trips to Little Rock and these statistics surprised me. I guess it has to do with what part of town you happen to be visiting.
