You know the old jokes about Louisiana gumbo, pick up anything and toss it in the pot, spice it up just right and serve it over rice and that's called gumbo. For some Louisiana cooks that may be pretty close to the truth, however, this weekend we get to learn how it's really done at the world famous Bridge City Gumbo Festival all weekend long.

They way I hear it, over 2000 gallons of gumbo will be served up for their visitors each day of the festival, then you toss in other cajun goodies like jambalaya, New Orleans style red beans and rice with sausage, plus there's always hamburgers, hot dogs, Fish and Shrimp plates, homemade cakes and candies, funnel cakes and much more.

As if the food wasn't enough there's live music each day, the Miss Creole Gumbo Pageant, arts and crafts vendors and much more.

It's a bit of a drive down to south Louisiana for this fantastic festival of food, but man is it worth it.
