The Telford Unit located in New Boston, Texas has been in on precautionary lockdown since April 8 along with 39 other facilities in the Texas Criminal Justice System.

As of Wednesday, April 22:

According to a press release, 84-year-old Willie Eanes was taken from the Telford Unit to UT Tyler Medical Center on April 14th suffering from symptoms consistent with COVID-19. Eanes suffered from a number of pre-existing medical conditions and tested positive for COVID-19 on April 15th. Eanes, who was serving a 45-year sentence for murder out of Tarrant County, died on April 20th and his family declined to have an autopsy performed, however, COVID-19 is believed to have contributed to his death.

There are 23 inmates that have tested positive to COVID-19 with 11 tests still pending making a total of 34 inmates in medical isolation.

As for employees at the Telford Unit: 32 have tested positive.

There is no breakdown of recoveries or hospitalizations at this time.

Medical Isolation: is for people who are sick and contagious. Isolation is used to separate ill persons who have a communicable disease from those who are healthy. Isolation restricts the movement of ill persons to help stop the spread of disease.

You can find the latest numbers for all the facilities in Texas at the Texas Department of Criminal Justice website.

Inmates at Barry B. Telford Correctional Facility who test positive are NOT included in the Bowie County case numbers. The local Emergency Operations Center is working with the administration of the Telford unit to understand the emergency plans for the facility, but case counts are kept separately
