The Texarkana Texas Police Department arrested 52 year old Gilbert Burton for Racing on Roadway Causing Serious Bodily Injury or Death.

He was identified as the driver of a second vehicle with whom Kalob Dolye was drag racing when Doyle struck LaQuonia Hopkin’s vehicle on Tuesday.

Investigators determined that Doyle and Burton were racing their vehicles southbound on Richmond Road at a very high rate of speed at approximately 5:27 on Tuesday March 20.

As Hopkins attempted to drive her 2003 Toyota Avalon across Richmond Road at Wheeler Street, Doyle’s 2000 Ford Mustang struck her in the driver’s side door.  Hopkins’ vehicle suffered extensive damage, and she died at the scene.  Burton’s 2007 Dodge Charger did not contact Hopkins’ vehicle, and he immediately fled the scene without stopping.

Burton turned himself in late this afternoon at the Texarkana Police Department after he was notified of the warrant being issued.  He was booked into the Bi-State Jail, where his bond has been set at $100,000.

An arrest warrant for Racing on Roadway Causing Serious Bodily Injury or Death has also been issued for Doyle, who suffered non-life threatening injuries in the crash.  He remains hospitalized at Christus St. Michael Hospital at this time.  Upon his release from the hospital, Doyle will also be arrested.

The investigators are still asking that anyone who may have witnessed this crash or have other pertinent information contact the Texarkana Texas Police Department at 903-798-3116.

Racing on Roadway Causing Serious Bodily Injury or Death is a second degree felony, punishable by not less than two years and not more than twenty years in prison and a fine of up to $10,000.
