‘Game of Thrones’ Breaks Record for Most-Watched TV Trailer in 24 Hours
We were all especially hungry for Game of Thrones after its spring delay, and doubly-so by the time HBO released the Season 7 trailer. So much so, in fact, that this week’s Season 7 footage racked up 61 million views in a day, believed to break TV’s record.
Per Deadline, those millions of views span YouTube, Facebook, Twitter and other platforms. Reaching 61 million in a 24-hour period is also sure to overtake the late March teaser (67.6 million views to date), which itself bested the Game of Thrones Season 6 trailer record at 63.5 million views. Amusingly, HBO’s most-watched online content overall is Last Week Tonight’s “Donald Drumpf” segment at 98 (!) million views overall.
According to Wikipedia, Game of Thrones Season 7’s viewership total in the first 24 hours also puts it above the original teaser for Star Wars: The Force Awakens (55 million), and on par with Captain America: Civil War’s 61 million. On the TV end, the closest runner-up appears to be the new season of FOX’s Prison Break, which garnered 42 million views in the first day.
There’s no telling how much higher the Game of Thrones Season 7 trailer might climb (to say nothing of a second), so check out our breakdown of the footage and stay tuned for more from the July 16 premiere.
