One of the biggest annual fundraisers for Hospice of Texarkana in the month of October is Jeans and Bling. Last year the fundraiser was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic and unfortunately with the rise of Delta Variant cases in Texarkana Jeans and Bling has been postponed until Spring of 2022.

Yesterday, I received word from Cindy Marsh from Hospice that in a meeting with board members with COVID cases ramping back up, the board felt it was not safe to have a gathering of a couple of hundred people for the sake of fundraising. So with that being said, Jeans and Bling has cancelled this year but will hopefully return in the Spring of 2022.

At last report in 2019 Hospice of Texarkana cleared a profit of $61,000 which was designated to help pay down the new Hospice 12-bed facility that had helped more than 300 patients up to that point with this local fundraiser. The event, which usually features a BBQ dinner, silent auction, lip-sync competition, and a band for dancing.

Let's look back at Jeans and Bling in 2019 and I'm sure you recognize some familiar faces.

The Lip Sync competitors included John Ross, his wife Lisa Shoalmire, and their daughters. They were also the group that raised the most money for Hospice of Texarkana.

The group that won a trophy for the Most Audience Involvement was the deejays from Townsquare Media. They performed as the "Not so Fab 4" with a special appearance from Elvis or Marvis, yeah that would be me. I'm thinking with those wigs, should have been, The Wiggles.
