Bowie County Jail Inmate Escapes During Hospital Visit, Found Hiding at Apartment Complex
Escape Attempt Ends at Apartment Complex
A Bowie County inmate accused of a lengthy list of serious offenses is facing another felony charge after allegedly escaping custody during a hospital visit Wednesday night, only to be found hiding at a nearby apartment complex.
According to the Bowie County Sheriff's Office, Omarion Lamon Owens escaped at approximately 9:20 PM on October 21 while receiving treatment at Christus St. Michael's Hospital for an alleged hand injury sustained while incarcerated at the Bowie County Jail.

Investigators believe Owens had planned the escape in advance. The sheriff's office said he had notified family members of his location, and they arrived at the hospital. A Bowie County jailer allowed Owens to have contact with them, violating department policy.
Owens allegedly removed his restraints while using the restroom before fleeing the hospital on foot.
Multi-Agency Search Leads to Arrest
After escaping, Owens reportedly discarded his orange jail clothing and was spotted several times in the area wearing only boxer shorts. Law enforcement officers conducted an extensive search that lasted several hours.
Owens was eventually found hiding on a second-floor stairway landing at the back of an apartment complex off Kennedy Lane. He was arrested without incident and returned to the Bowie County Jail.

Owens Now Facing Additional Escape Charge
The Sheriff's Office thanked the Texarkana Texas Police Department, Texas Department of Public Safety, Nash Police Department, Texarkana Arkansas Police Department, Texas Parks and Wildlife Department, Hooks Police Department, and Wake Village Police Department for their assistance in the search.
The investigation into Owens' escape preparations and possible accomplices remains ongoing.
