I am so sad to see that yet another great local and beloved restaurant has closed its doors.

I started hearing the whispers on social media this week. Then, when I was hoping that it wasn't true, Chappos' Facebook page made it official, saying,

Fresh and delicious we always tried to maintain our flavor/taste and well material things do wear out🙂
Since covid been on survival mode, finally decided to closed it down.

At the station, we knew something was up when Jim Weaver and our friend Wes tried to go there for lunch last Thursday, July 2. They said the doors were locked. Which wasn't a huge concern; we've all seen small restaurants close temporarily or shorten their hours for several reasons. From vacation time to family emergencies to remodeling or moving. But the whispers and concerns continued.

Chappos Italian Cuisine on Stateline opened back in 2009. Owned by Mario Aguilar, who worked at Alfredo's in Texarkana back in the 90s. It was wonderful to see Mario continue with his own restaurant.

You could always count on great Italian food at a reasonable price and great service. Every once in a while, you might see a special guest chef in the back, Alfredo himself coming in to give Mario a night off.

COVID was hard on many businesses, and while Chappos did everything they could to keep going, it's sad they were never able to fully recover.

My husband and I enjoyed many meals there over the years and celebrated several birthdays and other special occasions with family and friends. We'll always have fond memories of Chappos.

Thanks for the great food over the years, Chappos. You will be missed.
