Motorists traveling westbound on Interstate 30 in Texarkana should prepare for a long-term ramp closure beginning next week as construction on the I-30 widening project continues.

The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) announced that the Westbound Exit 220B to Richmond Road will close starting Monday, January 5, 2026, at approximately 9 AM. The closure is necessary to allow crews to build new pavement that will connect the exit ramp to the newly widened main lanes. The work is expected to take several months to complete, weather permitting.

Texarkana - Alternate Routes and Access

During the closure, drivers are encouraged to use Exit 222 at Summerhill Road and follow the continuous frontage road system to access Richmond Road, local hospitals, University Avenue, and nearby businesses. TxDOT has installed message boards along the corridor to alert motorists ahead of the change.

Continuous Frontage Road Benefits

TxDOT reminds drivers that the I-30 frontage road system allows continuous travel without stopping at traffic signals, eastbound from FM 989/Kings Highway to US 71/State Line Avenue, and westbound from State Line Avenue back to FM 989.

TxDOT Work Zone Safety Reminder

Drivers are urged to slow down, stay alert, avoid distractions, and watch for road crews while traveling through construction zones. Rear-end collisions remain the most common type of work zone crash, making safe following distances especially important.
